The board game Skull, also known as Skull & Roses, is a highly-regarded bluffing game where players try to reveal flowers while avoiding hidden skulls. The game is a test of poker face, deception, and risk-taking, rather than luck. 

Gameplay Overview
  • Objective: Be the first player to successfully win two challenges (rounds) by turning over the number of flower cards you bid without revealing a skull.
  • Components: Each player gets a player mat and four circular discs/cards: three with a flower and one with a skull.
  • A Round of Play:
    1. Each player secretly and simultaneously chooses one card to place face-down on their mat. Players can continue to add a second, third, or fourth card to their stack on subsequent turns, or initiate a bid.
    2. Once a player decides to bid, the bidding phase begins. Players, in turn, must either pass or raise the current highest bid. The bid represents the total number of face-down cards the bidder can flip over without hitting a skull.
    3. The highest bidder becomes the "challenger" and must attempt to flip over the specified number of cards. The challenger must flip all of their own face-down cards first, then can choose which other players' top cards to flip in any order.
    4. Winning/Losing a Challenge:
      • If the challenger successfully flips over only flowers equal to their bid, they win the round, and flip their mat over to mark their success.
      • If a skull is revealed at any point, the challenge is immediately lost. The owner of the revealed skull card randomly picks one card from the challenger's hand, which is permanently discarded from the game.
  • Winning the Game: The first player to successfully win two challenges (flip their mat over twice) wins the game. A player is eliminated if they run out of cards. If only one player remains with any cards, they also win the game. 
The game is praised for its simple rules and deep psychological gameplay, making it an excellent choice for game nights and parties.
