Lorwyn Eclipsed is an upcoming Magic: The Gathering set, scheduled for release in January 2026, that revisits the plane of Lorwyn. The set explores the conflict between the plane's eternal daylight and the encroaching darkness from Shadowmoor, which has created a hybrid "eclipsed" state for the plane. It will feature new and returning mechanics, familiar creature types like Kithkin, Elves, and Goblins, and a storyline focused on the plane's transformation.
Story and theme
Lorwyn and Shadowmoor: The set returns to the plane of Lorwyn, a realm of eternal daylight, and the twisted, darker plane of Shadowmoor.
The Eclipse: The core theme is the "eclipse" where the plane is caught in between its two states, and its inhabitants are slowly being transformed by the conflicting aspects of light and shadow.
Order and chaos: Players are encouraged to embrace the powers of both order and chaos as they explore this new state of the plane.
Metronome storyline: Lorwyn Eclipsed is the second set in the third and final story arc of the Metronome storyline.
Gameplay and mechanics
New and returning mechanics: The set will introduce new mechanics and revisit old ones from the original Lorwyn and Shadowmoor blocks.
Transforming creatures: A key feature will be transformable creatures, which have interesting timing restrictions for transformation and relatively cheap mana costs.
Revisiting iconic elements: Players can expect the return of beloved creature types like Kithkin, Boggarts, Merrow, Elves, and Goblins.
Shock lands: The set includes a reprint of the shock land cycle, with new art that showcases the light and dark aspects of the plane. Some will be two-sided full art versions.
Products and formats
Standard set: Lorwyn Eclipsed will be a standard set, meaning it will rotate and is expected to be used in standard play.
Booster products: The set will be available in Play Booster Boxes, which are ideal for limited format events like drafting.
Draft Night: A special product is being released called "Draft Night," which is a self-contained kit for hosting a four-player draft event with the set.
Theme decks: 60-card pre-constructed theme decks will be released alongside the set.
Booster Fun treatments: The set will feature special card treatments, including borderless and Fable frames, as well as serialized cards.
