Just One is a cooperative party word game where players work together to discover mystery words and achieve the highest possible team score.
Gameplay Overview
Objective: The group works together to help one active player (the "guesser") correctly identify a mystery word. The goal is to get a perfect score of 13 out of 13 possible points.
Roles: Each round, one player is the guesser, and the others provide clues. The role of the guesser rotates with each new card.
Clue Giving: The guesser draws a card and selects a number (1-5) to determine the secret word, which only the other players see. The other players then secretly and simultaneously write a single-word clue on their personal easels.
The Twist (Identical Clues Cancel): The guesser closes their eyes while the other players compare their written clues. Any identical clues (or invalid ones, such as words from the same family) are cancelled and removed from play. This encourages players to be creative and avoid obvious associations that others might also choose.
Guessing: The guesser opens their eyes and is shown the remaining, non-cancelled clues. They have just one opportunity to guess the mystery word.
Scoring:
Correct guess: The team scores 1 point (the card is placed face-up).
Wrong guess: The team loses the current card and the top card of the deck (losing 2 potential points).
No guess (pass): The team only loses the current card (losing 1 potential point).
The game is designed for 3 to 7 players, suitable for ages 8 and up, and has a quick playtime of around 20 minutes. It is praised for its simplicity, fast-paced nature, and ability to generate laughter and creative teamwork at social gatherings.
