Chromino is a tile-laying game that is a colorful variation of classic dominoes, where the objective is to be the first player to place all of your tiles. It is a family-friendly abstract strategy game that is easy to learn but offers strategic depth.
Gameplay Overview
- Objective: Be the first player to empty your hand of chromino tiles.
- Components: The game includes 80 chromino tiles (each with three colored squares in a row), a draw bag, and racks for players to hold their tiles.
- Setup: Each player typically starts with eight tiles, and one special "wild card" tile (which has a yin-yang symbol in the middle that counts as any color) is placed in the center of the table to start.
-
On Your Turn: On a player's turn, they must perform one of two actions:
- Place a tile: The player places one of their tiles orthogonally adjacent to a tile already in play on the table. At least two of the colors on the newly placed tile must touch and match the colors of the adjacent pieces. Mismatched colors cannot touch.
- Draw a tile: If a player cannot make a legal placement with any of the tiles in their hand, they must draw a new tile from the stock. If the newly drawn tile can be played immediately, they must do so; otherwise, they add it to their hand, and their turn ends.
- Winning the Game: The first player to successfully place their last chromino tile wins the game. When a player has only one tile left, they announce it to the other players. A wild card tile cannot be the final piece played.
