In Warhammer Age of Sigmar, a Chaos Daemon Prince is a once-mortal champion who has been elevated to a state of godlike power and immortality by the Chaos Gods. A Daemon Prince is a monstrous, terrifying creature that retains some of its personality and memories from its former life, making them ruthless and cunning warlords.
Ascension and appearance
Path to Glory: To become a Daemon Prince, a mortal champion must perform great and terrible deeds in the name of the Ruinous Powers. As they gain favor, they receive mutations, with daemonhood being the ultimate reward for success. Failure, however, can result in being transformed into a mindless Chaos Spawn.
Varied forms: No two Daemon Princes are exactly alike, though most are vast, hulking figures with traditional daemonic features like horns, talons, and wings. Their appearance is heavily influenced by the specific Chaos God they serve, or by Chaos Undivided.
Wargear: They commonly wield hellforged weapons, such as a daemonic axe or hellforged sword, or simply use their massive malefic talons to tear enemies apart.
Specializations by Chaos God
The form and abilities of a Daemon Prince are determined by their patron deity:
Khorne: These Daemon Princes are blood-crazed berserkers focused on raw martial power. Their bodies are bulging with muscle, and they often sprout leathery wings similar to a Bloodthirster.
Tzeentch: Favored with magical abilities, these Daemon Princes are potent sorcerers. They are often surrounded by a nimbus of magical light and may have large feathered wings. They are masters of manipulation and arcane influence.
Nurgle: Bloated with disease and pestilence, Nurgle's Daemon Princes are morbid, highly resilient, and unnaturally resistant to harm. They can project plagues and decay onto their enemies.
Slaanesh: Graceful, fast, and impossibly quick, these Daemon Princes are driven by an insatiable desire for excess. They are vicious fighters who can appear beautiful and glamorous while being incredibly deadly.
Chaos Undivided: These Daemon Princes serve all four Chaos Gods, but their path is far more treacherous. They often have the power to feed on the souls of the slain to heal themselves and are often cursed for their divided loyalties. The most famous Daemon Prince of Chaos Undivided is Be'lakor, the first of his kind.
Role on the battlefield
In battle, a Daemon Prince is a devastating force, capable of leading vast warbands and overpowering mortal enemies with ease.
Lords of War: They act as infernal monarchs to their mortal followers, who venerate them as living gods.
Fear and terror: Their nightmarish appearance and powerful aura cause fear and terror in their foes.
Immortal essence: Like other daemons, their essence returns to the Realm of Chaos if they are destroyed, only to emerge again later.
